     1. n. A short act or piece between others, as in a play; an interlude.
     2. n. (by extension) Intermediate employment or time.
     3. v. (intransitive) To act upon each other.
           The way staff interact with each other during breaks can play an important role in the workplace. -

It seemed like we were interacting with him. 
What he does is he makes up sentences in advance and memorises them, and when he gets into a situation where he can't avoid interacting with someone he picks out the appropriate ones.
